There are pivotal moments in every child’s life that shape who they become. One Child’s Heart is a tabletop roleplaying game that invites players to take the role of child welfare professionals participating in a new mental health care memory exploration experiment. The Central Limbic Engagement Recovery System (CLERS – pronounced, “clears”) brings characters into the memories of these key moments to give support and guidance to a child who needs both.
Professionals help create connections and teach resilience to children who desperately need someone to care about them.
The heart of this game centers on the power of a conversation. People that have a willingness to reach out to another human being in need have the power to effect real change. In this game, as in life, connections start by being brave and having a conversation. That can begin by simply asking, “Are you OK?”
During the Memories, the Professionals interact with the child through conversation, finding ways to get the child to open up and hear the support the professionals are offering. The Professionals walk into the middle of a memory that they don’t have any context for, especially at the beginning of the game. They need to move beyond the surface of what’s happening to discover why the experience is so impactful to the Child find a way to build trust and get them to open up before the memory ends.

PDF codes have gone out on DriveThruRPG! The PDF of One Child's Heart has been added to your BackerKit account as well. We had a slight delay in getting the finished character sheets to you but it should be ready by Wednesday. We'll post those as soon as they're done.

July update!

Things are getting so close! The interior of the main book and cover are done, have been proofread, and the files are being uploaded to the printer today or tomorrow. We're still scheduled on Taylor's print queue for August. Miguel is exporting the PDF of the book, and polishing the character sheets and we'll be uploading those to DriveThruRPG asap. Now we're working on finishing up the rest of our stretch goals and getting everything into your hands.
As promised, Jabari sent over the cover art for One Child's Heart: Book of Memories! All backers at the PDF level and above will be getting a copy of this book as part of their pledge. It contains all of our stretch goal Memories, backer Memories, plus a few extra that we added because we appreciate you so much.

Hello, Unicorns!
Things with the project are continuing along smoothly despite closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Kickstarter surveys have been sent out to collected your email address for our digital fulfillment and so folks can opt into our backer list on our website.
After much trial, error, and a lot of help the BackerKit survey is ready to go out! I will send out the first wave on Friday, June 19th with the rest following shortly after. The way that BackerKit is set up, we send out the survey to a random 5% of all backers across all tiers as a test to make sure there aren't major issues. If things go well, the rest are sent out.
Some important notes for BackerKit:
When you begin your survey, there is an opportunity to upgrade your backer tier at the same prices offered on the Kickstarter. If you want to move from a digital-only tier to a print copy or print bundle this is the cheapest method.
The print on demand Deck of Memories will be delivered through DriveThruRPG and is not available for preorder or addon via BackerKit. Once the deck is uploaded and backers have their codes, it will be available for sale on the DriveThruRPG website.
Your shipping address and fees will be collected when you fill out your survey. You will be able to edit your shipping information until we lock down the BackerKit for distribution. After that time, you can always message me and I'll reach out to our fulfillment partner to get the information updated.
We appreciate your support throughout the project! We've learned so much during the process and we're excited to apply that to our future projects.
As a bonus for this wonderful community, we reached out to Jabari Weathers, the artist who did our cover art, and they've agreed to create a new cover for One Child's Heart: Book of Memories! This secondary book is included with every reward tier and contains all of the Memories from our stretch goal writers, backers, and additional Memories that didn't fit in the core book. Jabari is currently working on the new art and this won't delay production of the stretch goal book at all. I'll share a preview with you as soon as I get it!
